T&G ORIGINAL BBQ BOX HACKS PART THREE - CHEESEBURGER TACOS

OK, so this is the last in a series of hacks that we have been promoting on the Turner & George blog, with a view to getting the most out of our Original BBQ Box this summer.

Yes, it’s all been about delivering some extra inspiration and some extra bang for your buck - and yes, this final twist does call for an act of desecration.

Because we are about to suggest that you:

a) grill our famous Black Label burgers on the BBQ and top them with American cheese

b) chop the burgers up straight afterwards

c) and then pile the gooey burger chunks into a taco and top with a tomato salsa

Like we said, sacrilege!

But it does work and the crisp nature of the corn taco does provide a unique, textural experience that is totally different to the brioche buns we provide.

Furthermore, with eight of the Black Label burgers included in our Original BBQ Box, we estimate that you can fill around sixteen tacos here. Maybe more!

That’s enough for a proper party and if you are holding one this May Day Bank Holiday, you’ve just got to give these a go!

Ingredients - serves 16

8 Black Label burgers

8 slices of ‘American’ cheese

16 corn tacos

Half an iceberg lettuce, shredded

For the salsa

200g cherry tomatoes, diced into small chunks

1 red onion, finely chopped

1 green chilli, finely chopped

1 small bunch of coriander, roughly chopped

2tsp red wine vinegar

Pinch of sugar

Method

Fire up your BBQ in readiness for grilling and mix all of the salsa ingredients together in a bowl and put to one side.

When the coals are white and hot, take the burgers and flatten them a touch with your hands and squash the middle with your thumb - this helps to prevent the burgers from puckering up.

Grill to taste, flipping a couple of times to ensure even browning and towards the end, add a slice of the cheese on each one and melt. All the pros out there will be using a cloche at this point.

When done, transfer to a board and (yes, do it) chop the burgers up into chunks.

Finish by filling each taco with some shredded lettuce, the burger mix and top with the salsa.

Enjoy!
